Last week, we kicked off our MAC (Make A Connection) event series with a bang in San Francisco. We hosted the intimate gathering at FiDi hotspot Leo’s Oyster Bar, enjoyed internationally-inspired cocktail and oyster pairings, and engaged attendees with a panel on how our forward-thinking customers Zoom and Dropbox are approaching employee travel. The champagne flowed, the oysters went fast, and professionals from across travel management, finance, and HR roles bonded over travel tales, culture conversations, and more.

During our interactive panel, Katie Romanko, Dropbox’s Head of Global Travel and Expense, and Zoom’s Corporate Controller, Vik Shah, shared a wealth of employee travel insights and advice with the crowd. Both spoke about the importance of empowering employees to make responsible decisions, building a culture that prioritizes employee happiness and productivity, and using innovative technology to better track and analyze travel spend trends.

Vik shared Zoom’s take on employee booking flexibility — the two-word mantra ‘Be reasonable’ takes the place of a strict travel policy at the organization — and Katie spoke about how Dropbox makes business travel a perk by letting employees choose options that suit their and the business’ needs. The two also shared the measurable impact they’ve seen as a result of higher traveler adoption rates — streamlined business travel expense reporting, more accurate spend forecasts, and better duty of care, for starters — and spoke about how 24/7 support is a game-changer for travelers caught in a bind.

Between the unique (and very Instagrammable) venue, tasty bites and bubbles, and compelling panelist content, our first ever MAC event proved to be one for the books — and now we’re feeling that much more excited to continue the fun in NYC, Chicago, Boston, and Denver!
