The Flight Crew Series: Jyothi Finds Her Team at HQ
Welcome to The Passenger Series where we sit down with our team members around the world to get to know them better. We talk about the careers that led them to TripActions, what their roles look like on a daily basis, why they believe in their teams, and even their favorite travel memory. The participants were selected by their peers for the incredible work, team spirit, and how they embody TripActions values. Read more from the series here.
This week we sat down with Jyothi Bysani, who is a software QA engineer based in our Palo Alto headquarters. Jyothi joined TripActions in August 2019 after more than eight years at Apple and plays an integral role in ensuring that the TripActions mobile app is in perfect working condition after every single release.
In short, Jyothi solves problems.
“I thoroughly test the TripActions mobile app. Whatever our team implements, I test it to make sure it is user-friendly and our users are happy. I make sure that all new features flow and that the TripActions app is accessible to everyone,” explains Jyothi who always knew that she wanted to be a QA engineer.
“I was very interested in finding the bugs. I love this job. It is exciting to see every new release and the functionalities added to the app. I go into meetings and learn about what is coming up. I get to work with a lot of people including project managers, developers, and QA managers. I want to interact with people and make sure that I’m covering every possible scenario. I really enjoy the process.”
The Interview Process
Jyothi had held a similar role at Apple for eight years when she learned about TripActions. She kept an eye open for opportunities and eventually her ideal role opened up.
“The interview process was a really good experience for me. The interviewers made me feel really comfortable and confident. When I came in for the in-person interview, I felt very welcome and very happy. It was different from other companies that I had interviewed with in the past. I knew that I could do a good job for them, but the process made it easier to show them that. This was one of my best interview experiences ever.”
Life at HQ
Jyothi sits at TripActions HQ in Palo Alto. She appreciates how the company makes work-life balance easier by providing lunch every day and once-a-week breakfast, as well as opportunities to chat with coworkers at happy hours and other on-site events. The best part of working at HQ, however, is the people. She felt like part of the team from the first day.
“Initially, QA engineers have to ask a lot of questions. We need a lot of information. I was working with all of the mobile developers and all of them were, and are, very helpful. I can go and talk to them any time to ask even the simplest question. The entire team made me feel so comfortable -- all the product managers, developers, QA engineers, QA managers... everyone was helpful. I’ve been really happy since my first week. It didn’t even feel like a new company. I never felt like, ‘I’m the new person here.’”
The teamwork that Jyothi references here is an integral part of the values that TripActions was built around. Of our six core values, “challenge the status quo” is the one that Jyothi aligns with the most.
“We always question what we’re doing and are pushing ourselves to improve. As a team, we always think to ourselves about how this helps the users and challenge all of the teams to give the best possible experience to all of the users, all of the time,” says Jyothi.
Testing TripActions in Real Life
TripActions knows that our lives outside the office are just as important as our relationships and activities inside the office, which is why we walk the talk and provide every employee with a $2,000 travel stipend each year. Last year Jyothi used the stipend for a special treat with her entire family.
“On a trip to India, we stopped in Dubai where I booked the best hotel for four nights. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the benefit that TripActions provides. It was an amazing experience. My son told me, ‘This is the best hotel and vacation you ever booked.’ This is the best compliment from my children. Now he’s asking about where we’re going this year!”
Jyothi recommends TripActions as a great place for women to work, and has referred other female engineers to join her team. Her advice to prospective applicants?
“This is a very good company, very good people to work with, and they are very helpful. Don’t think about it. Just apply.”
We are always looking for new members of our flight crew. Career opportunities across our ten offices are listed on our Careers page. We’re currently hiring for dozens of positions in every department. Take a look -- we’d love to have you.
