During the month of June, the LGBTQIA+ community and allies come together for Pride Month to celebrate love, diversity, and acceptance. Across the globe, people celebrate the freedom to be themselves, advocate for human rights, and recognize the impact lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and others have made.

The month of June was chosen for Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising, when members of the LGBTQIA+ community rioted against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969. It was a tipping point for the gay liberation movement that paved the way for LGBTQIA+ rights.

Navan employees are welcome to celebrate Pride Month through regional office happy hours and remote-friendly events, including a game of Drag Queen Bingo. Planning these events are members of Outbound, one of Navan's many Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that support and unite diverse communities to cultivate a greater sense of awareness and belonging throughout the company.

Outbound’s mission is to recognize the importance of inclusivity among the LGBTQIA+ community through education and social awareness in the Navan workplace. The group is co-led by Chris Martens, senior customer success manager, and Jerry Yanez, senior partner operations analyst. The duo help organize the ERG’s activities, keep conversations going, and report to the Belong: DEI Council, which helps further the company’s DEI strategy by fostering collaboration and supporting company-wide efforts to build awareness and increase visibility.

“We want all Navan employees to know that you can bring your whole, authentic self to work,” explained Martens.

"The Outbound ERG encourages everyone to come together in creating a strong culture of inclusiveness—and to just be yourself," added Yanez.

During Pride Month, Martens and Yanez will engage Outbound members via ERG's Slack channel. The group also plans to ask members to recommend books with inspiring LGBTQIA+ characters to start a quarterly book club.

Additional details about Pride Month events will be circulated with Navan employees. Join us in our vision to create a truly diverse community that prioritizes equality above all else!
